A pro football player, recently traded to the Carolina Panthers, took to Twitter this week to express his dismay at the heat. His followers were having none of it – “it’s not even HUMID yet. Just wait ‘til June!” they tweeted back.
We North Carolinians know summers here are hot, but that doesn’t deter us from planning weddings throughout the season because we’re optimists and, well, you never know – there could be a cold spell.
In the event Mother Nature isn’t feeling cooperative, it’s best to have plans in place to ensure you, your bridal party, and your guests, remain comfy even when the mercury and dew points are climbing toward 90.
Provide Plenty of Water!
Dehydration is real. Hand out bottles of water to your guests as they arrive, maybe even custom labeled. Have pitchers of ice water waiting in the wings at the reception, infused with fruit slices that match the color of your flowers, or even infuse ice cubes with fruit and mint. Serve in pretty glasses and keep on serving – it will do wonders to cool everyone down.
Serve Popsicles
Homemade popsicles or store bought, it’s up to you, or you could even hire an Italian Ice cart for the event. Refreshing treats in vivid colors that coordinate with the bridesmaids’ dresses are oh-so-pretty and sweet!
Make Hand-Held Paper Fans
Hand-held paper fans are a fun memento of the day. Utilize copies of your invitation, engagement photos, or wedding program, attach to wooden sticks and voila! a fan! They’re good for swatting away those pesky mosquitos too.
Provide Misters
You know you seek out those big misters at amusement parks when you need to cool off from a long day in the sun. Good news – they make hand-held, battery-operated fan misters that provide the same refreshing coolness to keep us from melting in the summer heat. Have them ready for guests as they arrive, and you’ll be good to go.
Let Your Guests Freshen Up
Make sure the bathrooms are stocked with body wipes, face blotters, hair bands, and even travel-size deodorant so your guests can freshen up through the day if they’re feeling a little melted.
Rent A/C Units
Cooled air – how did we ever survive without it?
Try renting a few portable a/c units and electric fans and place them strategically at the ceremony and reception. They can do a pretty good job of keeping even an outside event cooled to a comfortable temperature.
Use Tents, Of Course!
Provide all-over cover with a tent at your ceremony and reception. Your guests will welcome the shade on a warm day. There are plenty of styles available – ask about which one would work best for your situation.
