Keeping the Holidays Safe
Tis’ the season to celebrate and be merry! From decorating the Christmas tree to cooking your favorite family recipes, the holiday season is time to embrace traditions. This year, those traditions may look a little different while the pandemic lingers on into the final months of 2020. With social distancing and state-wide rules governing your guest list, holiday planning this year is all about being creative and embracing the “new” holiday norm.
Social distancing during the holiday season
Organizing holiday events this year is about making sure to celebrate while also keeping everyone safe. The pandemic doesn’t mean you have to stay home and be cut off from all things merry and bright, but rather that you have to make sure to plan accordingly. One way to check all of the gift-wrapped “boxes” is to take your celebrations outdoors.
Cookie Exchange
If having a formal gathering makes you feel uneasy, think about hosting a contactless cookie exchange. Invite all of your friends and family to create their favorite holiday cookies and host an outdoor cookie exchange. Make sure to set some parameters during the celebration
- Place cookies in individual-sized baggies to reduce the risk of transmitting germs
- Make sure to list out ingredients next to each cookie type
- Make sure to place the different cookies six feet apart to allow for social distancing
- Have hand sanitizer placed at each cookie table
Holiday Movie Night
Bring back the classics by hosting a holiday movie night in your backyard. We all have that one holiday movie that gives us all the “feels”…the movie you watch to kick-off the holiday season. Whether it is “Home Alone” or “It’s a Wonderful Life,” take this opportunity to invite close friends and family to enjoy your favorite movie on the lawn. Holiday Scavenger Hunt
The annual family and friend cocktail party doesn’t have to be put by the wayside — it just has to look a little different. This year, think about inviting a small group of your closest friends/family to partake in a Holiday Scavenger Hunt. Make clues that align with areas outside of your home or send your guests on an adventure around your neighborhood. The most important thing is to be together (safely) and create those memories that will last a lifetime. Some scavenger suggestions
- At each clue location, place a small gift, treat, or specialized drink
- Incorporate physical elements by making your guests complete a task at each location
- Give each group a camera and have them take a picture at each clue (the funnier, the better)
