Honoring Loved Ones Who Can’t Attend Your Wedding

Meaningful Ideas to Show Love

The ongoing global pandemic seems to be subsiding given the release of vaccines (and social distancing paired with washing and sanitizing practices). However, Covid is still present and dangerous. If you’ve decided to continue with plans to get married this year and are deciding on ways to keep attendance down – but still include everyone – here are a few ideas to give your guests that warm and fuzzy feeling while attending remotely.

Include a Note in the Program

Show your appreciation for your guests by acknowledging and thanking them in the wedding program. Try to group similar people in the program, so it doesn’t get too long. For example, you can thank the parents separately and then conjoin friends and other family members. You can also thank the wedding party while giving a shout-out to those who couldn’t come. Here are a few things you might want to thank your guests for:

  • Attending the wedding virtually
  • Supporting the union of you and your spouse
  • Being there for you and your loved one during challenging times
  • Sharing memories of special individuals who couldn’t make the celebration

Have a Photo Area to Honor Them Through Pictures/ a Memory Table

If a picture alone is worth a thousand words, then a collage tells the whole story. You and your spouse can request that guests (virtual and attending) send photos of valuable memories that you all share. Pictures can be posted at a decorated station or use a timeline of images that lead up to the wedding day. There are also picture collage apps and software that can help consolidate all the memories into an easy-to-use format.

Another idea is to hire a videographer who can create a slideshow of everyone over the years. Pictures can include fun memories, selfies, and even short videos of everyone who couldn’t attend the wedding (but are there in spirit or on Zoom). Either way, the photo area can be displayed and/or recorded to show everyone that they’re still in your thoughts during this special time.

Create a Playlist With Virtual Attendees’ Favorite Love Songs

Make the ultimate wedding playlist by using favorite songs from your loved ones. Let guests choose one song that they want to dedicate to you on your special day. Let those attending virtually set and maintain the vibe throughout the night through music. Songs can be played before, during, and after the actual event at your discretion. Here are a few songs to kickstart your Wedding Day Playlist:

  • Thinking Out Loud – Ed Sheeran
  • Can’t help Falling in Love – Elvis Presley
  • Stand by Me – Ben E. King
  • Endless Love – Lionel Ritchie
  • Speechless – Dan + Shay
  • This is Why I Love You – Major
  • A Thousand Years – Christina Perri
