A Beginner’s Guide to Throwing a Fantastic 4th of July Party

Planning to throw an Independence Day party? We are to help you and your friends bask in the glory of fun, freedom, and fireworks. You’ve got a built-in color scheme, the night-time attraction is a sure thing (whether it’s you or the neighbors), so now you just need to figure out what to do with all that time before the big show. Check out our party planning guide below.

Food, food, food, and more food. Folks love to eat on the 4th. The good news is that this is a holiday that you can easily pull off as a potluck by asking guests to bring a dish. Fourth of July parties are also perfect for grilling. It’s a relatively inexpensive way to feed a horde of hungry people, if you opt for simply hotdogs and hamburgers (and the faux-meat versions for your vegetarian friends).

If you’re feeling extra, you can make red, white, and blue cocktails, appetizers, and desserts. Let that Pinterest board burst on those platters in all its glory!

It seems obvious, but this is the one thing folks forget about when hosting parties Fortunately, unless you’re throwing a formal Fourth of July get-together, you’re fine to use plastic chairs, lawn chairs, camping chairs, any other casual seating you can find around your house. Since it’s unlikely you’ll have enough stashed in your garage to comfortably seat a large crowd, make it a point to eyeball how many you’re missing and ask friends or family to bring some over before the party, or you can always rent from J&J of course.

Trying to maintain some sort of budget? Enter the dollar store. They’ll have plenty of low-cost decor in red, white, and blue, along with Fourth of July party favors.

One thing you won’t find at the dollar store but is always a big hit is a photo opportunity of some sort. Whether you use a print-out of the American flag as a background or put together your own DIY ribbon banner, friends and family will enjoy posing for pics.

There’s just something about beating your best friend at a game of cornhole that makes you feel alive. Thanks to July’s typically sunny weather, there are plenty of outdoor games you can play to stir up everyone’s competitive spirits and get them mingling. If your party isn’t a pool party, you could always have a cooler full of water guns or water balloons set aside for refreshing fun for both parents and kids.

It’s always good to have some sort of entertainment or background music for your 4th of July party in case your grill master is taking their sweet time with the food. 😉

Fireworks of course will be the end of evening entertainment. Sparklers and party poppers for kids go a long way. If you are making the drive to South Carolina to get the works, be safe! If your house is a prime location for the community fireworks, great! However you enjoy the evening, enjoy the quality time with your friends and family this Holiday.
