5 Essential Backup Planning Tips for the Spring Bride

Winter (or whatever season you want to call it here in North Carolina) is headed out, and Spring is in the air. Your wedding is in the books, and you are praying that your day will not be dampened by the unpredictable chance of showers on your day. Fear not! No matter the weather, these helpful tips will allow your day to run smoothly, rain or shine.

Research Venue Accommodations

It’s so important to find out what your venue will do in case of rain. Do they have outdoor covered areas? Do they have indoor space available? Do they have a generator for power outages? A venue that has indoor and outdoor rental capacity is ideal. However, you will need to make arrangements for indoor space in advance. Make sure it can be used as a dual space for both a ceremony and reception if needed, and inquire about how that would look, time for the transition, etc.

Reserve a Tent

If your venue does not have an outdoor covered space in case of rain, you may want to reserve a tent. Even if you don’t end up using it, it will give you peace of mind knowing you have it in case the weather doesn’t hold up. Past J&J brides have booked tents for their Spring wedding, regardless of the weather. A clear top is beautiful for a reception under the stars, and a frame tent can be decked out with café lighting to keep the party going in the rain. It’s a win win!

Provide Umbrellas

Purchase a large golf umbrella to keep the bride’s wedding dress dry and her makeup in place. Providing color-coordinated umbrellas for the wedding party is also a nice and classy touch. There are rental facilities that rent umbrellas, so if you don’t want to buy a large quantity of umbrellas you will need to do some research beforehand. If you do make the investment, it can double as a wedding favor, and you can look to have the umbrellas personalized. It’s a nice gesture for ushers to use umbrellas to escort your guests to covered areas, and your guests will appreciate it.

Keep Your Guests Informed

Having an ‘in case of rain’ information card within your wedding invitations, or dedicated page on your wedding website is wise. This should detail any venue changes and alternate routes to your wedding in case of flooding or road closures. At the wedding site, in addition to umbrellas, you could provide ponchos, flip-flops, and towels.

Have Your Backup Plan in Writing

Work with your planner or day of coordinator to create a solid backup plan. Make sure they distribute this plan to vendors and the wedding party, so everyone can be on the same page and your wedding can still run smoothly.
