Planning Your Wedding in North Carolina
Things to think about as you prepare
As long as you have a budget and picture in mind of what you want in a wedding, the options are endless. However, the early bird gets the worm when it comes to wedding planning. If you plan too close to your wedding date, the less options you’ll have available to make your wedding dreams come true. When planning your wedding in NC take a look at a few things to think about as your prepare.
Consider the Season
It’s never too early for planning your wedding in NC. The spring and fall seasons are the most popular, but a winter or summer wedding isn’t out of the question. If you’ve always dreamed of a beach wedding, spring or summer are the best seasons. Your guests can enjoy a family beach trip after attending your wedding. If you’ve always wanted a wedding with mountain scenery in the background, NC’s Blue Ridge Parkway area and Asheville are calling. A family wedding in the backyard or at a church are also popular wedding styles and can take place during any season. Whatever season you choose, consider the weather and how that will affect your wedding party and guests. You may need to rent canopies for outdoor weddings. J&J Tent and Party Rentals has a wide variety of canopies to choose from.
Size and Location
Before you do anything, decide on the type of wedding and the number of guests you plan to invite. This will impact your planning for venue, food, and seating. Create a spreadsheet for your guest lists. You can find many free wedding planning spreadsheets online. Organization is key when planning a wedding.
Picking a Venue
The Sutherland in Wake Forest and the Sarah P. Duke Gardens in Durham are two popular wedding venues and wedding reception locations in North Carolina. You can find a comprehensive list on sites such as Southern Bride & Groom Magazine and WeddingWire .
It’s a good idea to choose your venue and book it at least one year in advance. Wedding planning can be intense, so you may want to hire a professional wedding planner. Many brides are taken aback when they discover how quickly and early wedding venues are booked. It’s survival of the fittest out there brides! Plan ahead to get the best locations.
Catering and the Cake
A caterer’s calendar can fill up quickly, especially in prime wedding season, so it’s a good idea to call at least six months in advance. Don’t forget the wedding cake! Make sure to order your wedding cake at least six months before the big date. Smaller bakeries may be able to fill an order faster, but remember peak wedding season can fill up orders fast. You don’t want to have to break out the Duncan Hines at the last minute. (Okay, that was just a joke. Please don’t do that.) You do need to check with your wedding venue to see if they supply the cake or catering services. Call the property manager of the venue to see if they offer these services before you contact outside vendors.
If you’re as disorganized as most people, a wedding planner could be helpful. I know I wouldn’t undertake a big assignment such as a wedding, but there are a few brides who can handle the stress and excitement of planning a wedding with elegance and ease. For me, I’d rather leave it to the professionals.
Rent Wedding Tents
Wedding tents provide shelter from spring and summer heat. Some places in the south, like NC, experience extreme heat late into the summer and early fall. It isn’t at all unusual to find a 90+ degree day in October, so prepare to beat the heat. One of the best ways to beat the heat is to rent canopies or tents for the wedding party and ceremony. If precipitation should occur on your wedding day, you’ll be glad that you rented a wedding tent.
